Recycled newsprint and OCC are two
common feedstocks used in recycled-content cellulose insulation. Cost
and supply volatility for these commodities has led to interest in paper
mill screenings as an alternative feedstock. This material was collected,
dried, processed, and installed in typical building construction cavities.
Lab tests evaluated the thermal performance of the alternative cellulose
insulation product. Project results suggest that with proper sorting
and processing, paper mill screenings could be incorporated into the
manufacture of cellulose insulation.
