Compaction Specification for Use of Recycled Concrete as Structural
Fill (1999)
Summary:
Recycled concrete can be used as a structural fill material and can
cost 20 to 30 % less than natural aggregate. On-site quality control
of the compaction level is important during placement of structural
fill and is typically verified by measuring in-situ moisture and density.
Modifications of this conventional
aggregate testing procedure were tested for potential use in compaction
specification of recycled concrete aggregate. Test results indicate
that fill control using moisture content correlation curves is a more
promising technique than fill control using wet density.
