Senate Confirms Andrea Lucas to Second Term on EEOC

August 6, 2025

What's New

On July 21, the U.S. Senate confirmed Andrea Lucas to a second term on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), extending her tenure through 2030. The Senate approved the nomination by a partisan vote of 52 to 45.

What It Means

Lucas, a Republican serving as the EEOC’s Acting Chair, and Democrat Kalpana Kotagal are the EEOC’s only confirmed Commissioners. With three seats vacant, the agency lacks a quorum, preventing action on major policy changes.

That could change soon. Brittany Panuccio’s nomination for a term ending in 2029 has cleared the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and awaits a full Senate vote.
