CWC Supports DOL’s Proposal To Retain Current VETS-4212 Report

January 31, 2024

What's New

CWC supports the three-year extension of the Federal Contractor Veterans’ Employment Report (VETS-4212) proposed by DOL’s Veterans’ Employment and Training Service. Covered federal contractors must file the VETS-4212 report annually with DOL-VETS. It provides a snapshot of a contractor’s workforce broken down by protected veteran status, location, and job category. Contractors also must report the number of protected veteran new hires for the preceding 12-month period.

In written comments filed with VETS, CWC supported the agency’s announced intent to seek approval from the White House Office of Management and Budget to continue using the current version of the VETS-4212 report for three more years. CWC’s comments noted that contractors are familiar with the form and that the reporting process is a relatively simple and efficient method for satisfying the reporting requirements of the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 (VEVRAA).

What It Means

DOL-VETS will analyze the comments it receives in response to its notice before submitting its formal extension request to OMB, although we don’t expect it to change anything. Similarly, we expect OMB to approve the three-year extension request without change. If it does, federal contractors will be able to fulfill their annual filing requirements by using the same form that they have been using.

What You Should Do

CWC will report on developments regarding DOL-VETS’ request. Contractors will have to use whatever version of VETS-4212 OMB ultimately approves.
