Voting Leave

Because voting polls are typically open during normal business hours during the workweek, many states have enacted laws that require an employer to provide employees with leave from work to cast their ballot. State laws on this subject vary widely, including the amount of leave allowed, whether it is to be paid or unpaid, and whether an employer may circumscribe when an employee is permitted to such leave. CWC’s State Voting Leave tool lists the states that have voting leave mandates and summarizes the actions an employer may be allowed to take when an employee requests leave from work to vote.
